TRENSIM is a driving simulator developed for Turkish Railways (TCDD). The projectwas started in mid August 2007 and will be completed in 42 months. It is carried out by a consortium under the lead of TUBİTAK MAM Information Technologies Institute with partners DEVNET, 5M and Marmara University. The objective of the project is to create a driver simulator for E4300 locomotives possessed by TCDD. This simulator is expected to provide training under various environmental and atmospheric conditions to machinists. In addition to that the simulator will also allow the drivers to practice mulfunctions and failures to be encountered during real driving. This will be the first civil training simulator developed as a whole by national initiatives. It is also expected that the outcome of this project will prevent Turkey’s dependency to abroad.
TRENSIM will be a good example of cooperation between industry, university and research organizations.
5M is responsiblefor developing e-learning system for the simulator in order to allow the dirvers to be trained for basic concepts and related information before they come to simulator. This will be another aspect of the simulator realised for the first time. Distance based teaching will reduce traning costs and will improve training effectiveness on simulator. This project is also seen as a good example along this line.
